What is a Fragile Environment?
A fragile environment is something that is a delicate and precious part of our world. An environment can be built or natural.
A built environment is an environment that has been created by humans. Parks, buildings, roads, schools and houses are all a part of built environments. We can also call these man-made environments.
A natural environment is an environment made up of living and non-living things that have not been changed by humans. Flora (plants), fauna (animals) and things such as rocks, mountains and valleys all make up natural environments. We are very lucky to live on an Earth with such natural beauty.

So Why Are Some Environments Fragile?
Both built and natural environments do not necessarily last forever. Some of these environments have a delicate balance of wildlife, or are made up of ancient and important buildings. This means that the environments are fragile - they need special care to make sure that they survive for future generations to enjoy.
It is up to us to make sure these environments are preserved. That's why there are things like the World Heritage List that allow certain places or 'sites' to be looked after and protected by law.
It is up to us to make sure that we are doing what we can to protect the fragile environments all around us.
